Most Expensive Barbie

A custom-designed Barbie, wearing a necklace featuring a one-carat pink diamond, is to be auctioned off for an estimated 300,000 to 500,000 dollars, making it the world’s most expensive.

The doll will be on offer at Christie's auction house in New York on October 20, and the proceeds from the sale will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Daily Mail reported.

The necklace was designed by jeweller Stefano Canturi, who arranged the emerald-cut, fancy vivid diamond in a geometric pattern with smaller white diamonds totalling 3 carats.

He also designed the doll's black strapless dress, stilettos, hair and other features.

The world auction record for a Barbie is 17,091 dollars, set in 2006 at Christie's London.

Google or Backrub?

Google was once names "BackRub"

Creators Larry Page and Sergey Brin met while at Stanford University and collaborated on a web search engine called “BackRub.” Over time, the engine became too large for the university’s servers and the pair decided it was time for a name change. They eventually came up with the name “Google,” which was based on the word “googol” - a mathematical term for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros! They believed this word encapsulated their goal of organizing the limitless amounts of information stored across the World Wide Web.

Unique bear shadow in NC

A unique annual phenomenon is about to take place again on a North Carolina mountainside where the autumn light creates a shadow shaped like a bear.

The shadow of the bear shows up from mid-October through early November as the sun sets behind Whiteside Mountain in southern Jackson County. It's best seen on clear days around 5:30 p.m., with the show lasting for about a half-hour. Tourists and photographers hoping to see it often gather at the Rhodes Big View overlook along Highway 64, a little more than 4 miles from the town of Cashiers.
The Jackson County Visitors Center describes the phenomenon as a bear-like shadow coming "out of hibernation" at a time of year when the mountain is covered with colourful fall foliage. The image is created by a series of small, bumpy peaks on the mountain that block the sun's rays and cast shadows on the slopes and valley below as the sun sinks lower in the sky. The same phenomenon happens again in late winter for a few weeks beginning mid-February.
The area is about 75 miles southwest of Asheville, N.C., near the borders of South Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia.

Phineas and Ferb Destroyed Dreams (HD)

This is one of my fave songs from Phineas and Ferb. It's real name was Destroyed Dreams but then it was changed to Baliwood. It has a Bollywood theme (d'oh). One of the best parts is when the girls in purple are dancing and when Phineas sings "Where's Perryyyy"! Oh and also notice that Ferb smiles. It's only the second time that he has done it.

Saw Coraline yesterday. It was awesome. Worth a watch.

Why I Hate Dora

From the moment I met her, I knew we weren't gonna be friends. Her weird butt-cut hairstyle, her alarmingly big head and her distasteful choice in clothes. The way she talks to everyone around her and keeps repeating herself. Her horrible Spanglish. I am talking about "Dora" the self-proclaimed "explorer".

I have several issues with this show.

What's a masked fox doing in a jungle, anyway? And why is he always taking stuff that isn't his? He would be a nice set of ear muffs. It's not like he wasn't warned. How many times does she have to say it...SWIPER NO SWIPING! Damn!

I'm a Map, I'm a Map, I'm a Map, I'm a Map I'm a MAP!

Why is the map an annoying old guy? I've known plenty annoying old guys and believe me, they get you nowhere. Dora needs a ghetto chop-shop GPS system. It could freestyle all of her directions. Big improvement, right?

Bridge, Rainforest, Stony Mountain!

Every damn pot of gold or Abuela's house or pinata filled with choco-lott-ay cannot be found by going over the bridge, through the rainforest and underneath stony mountain. Every time the same directions. Go OVER THE BRIDGE,  THROUGH THE RAINFOREST, and UNDERNEATH STONY MOUNTAIN! You know what's gonna be there next time? Me, with a big knife.

Dora The Explorer - Theme song

Doo doo doo doo doo Dora! Doo doo doo doo doo Dora! Dora, Dora, Dora the Explor-uhhhhh! something, something, something, Extraordinorahhhhhh! Grab your backpack! Let's Go! Jump in! VAMANOS! You can lead the waaaaayy! Doo doo, Dora! Doo doo Dora! Swiper, no Swiping! Swiper, no Swiping! (oh, maaaaaaaan!) Dora theeee Explor-uhhh!"

God, how ANNOYING!!!

Tootsie Pops

Do you'll like Tootsie Pops? Well, have you ever counted how many times you lick the lollipop?

A machine modeled after a human tongue which took 364 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. When volunteers performed the experiment with their own tongues instead of a machine it took an average of 252 licks.

A doctorate student at the University of Michigan performed a similar experiment, and his licking machine got to the center in 411 licks.

Junior high students at Swathmore School averaged just 144 licks to get to the center of their Tootsie Pops when doing the experiment with their real tongues.
Engineering students at the University of Purdue constructed a licking machineApparently humans are better at eating candy than "licking machines" (and junior high students eat candy faster than college students do).

Superstitious celebs

Lucky charms can boost one's self-confidence, study says. On learning this I have compiled an array of famous personalities influenced by superstitions. Some common, some weird and some outright FUNNY!

Vidya Balan

Lucky charm: Kajal
The Bollywood beauty only uses the Hashmi brand of kajal, which she gets all the way from Pakistan. And get this- She refuses to use any other kind of kajal.

Cameron Diaz

Lucky charm: chain
The Hollywood star is besotted by a chain which she received as a gift because she was told it can prevent ageing. It is almost always with her. At 37, she looks gorgeous and is one of Hollywood's highest paid actresses. She could be right after all!

Salman Khan

Salman Khan

Lucky charm: bracelet
Arre! Ab to kuch kehna hi nahi chayi hai! We all know Sallu's beloved blue sapphire bracelet on his right wrist which he considers as is protecter.

Geoffrey Rush

Lucky charm: Daffy Duck toy ( I warned you....!)
In 1997, hours before winning an Oscar for his role in the movie 'Shine', Geoffrey Rush was asked if he had a lucky charm. He pulled out a plastic Daffy Duck toy from his pocket. The charm worked! Two years later at the 1999 Oscars, he still had the toy with him although this time he didn't win the award, only a nomination.

Shilpa Shetty

Lucky charm: So how many of you'll wear two watches? No, I mean at the same time....Shilpa does! Her lucky charm is a watch on both hands while watching her team play.

Saurav Ganguly, Mohammed Azharuddin and Zaheer Khan

Saurav Ganguly, Mohammed Azharuddin and Zaheer Khan

Lucky charm: handkerchiefs

The three of them Saurav and Zaheer, and Azhar during his playing days, always had a handkerchief on them on the field. While Saurav has a red handkerchief which he considers is lucky for him, with Zaheer it is a yellow one and with Azhar it was a black one ( yes, the media actually observed ALL this!).

Barack Obama
Lucky charm: Hanuman idol, a bracelet and a picture of Madonna with child.
You might find this hard to believe! One of the charms US Prez Barack Obama carries with him is a tiny idol of Hanuman. The others are a bracelet belonging to a US soldier deployed at Afghanistan, a gambler's lucky chit and a small locket with Madonna and child. When I say Madonna and child I don't mean the singer! I mean the Christian Madonna!
Prez Obama's carrying a Hanuman idol is believed to have been influenced by his childhood spent at Indonesia. Like the hIndus here, Indonesian Hindus consider the monkey god as very powerful and a protector against evil. However, unlike the Indian Hanuman, Obama's Indonesian idol has four hands.
David Beckham
Lucky charm: Armani underwear (yes ARMANI!) and new shoes for each match.
Ever since he started representing Los Angeles Galaxy, the celebrated British footballer always wears a new pair of shoes for every match. He believes this brings him luck. Also Beckham, who models for Emporio Armani never plays a match without wearing Armani underwear.
Serena Williams
Superstition: Checks shoelaces and bounces ball five times before match.
Lucky charm: Shower sandals
The reigning Wimbledon champion never forgets to check her shoelaces before a match. According the tennis star, not tying her shoelaces properly cost her a match in 2007. Ever since that defeat, she takes double care when it comes to her shoelaces. She has another pre-match superstition - bouncing the ball five times. Her lucky charm is a pair of shower sandals that she always carries to a match. Apparently she neither bounced the ball nor carried the sandals on the day she lost the match in 2007.

Solar Tsunami: May hit Earth anytime

‘Solar tsunami’ may hit Earth anytime: Scientists

London: The Earth could be hit by a “solar tsunami” anytime now as an unusually complex magnetic eruption on the Sun has flung a large cloud of electrically charged particles towards our planet, scientists have warned.
‘Solar tsunami’ may hit Earth anytime: Scientists

Several satellites, including NASA's new Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), recorded on Sunday a small solar flare erupting above sunspot 1092, the size of the Earth. The satellites also recorded a large filament of cool gas stretching across the Sun's northern hemisphere also exploded into space.
